Myrtle Allen'S Brown Bread(From Balley Maloe House In Ireland) is an easy dinner. Made with 1 1/2 tsp. salt, 3/4 c. whole wheat flour, 1 1/2 pkg. yeast, 1/2 c. warm water and 2 tbsp. molasses, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Bursting with flavor in every bite.
Warm salt and whole wheat flour in oven in a large bowl, not hot.
Mix yeast, warm water and molasses together and let proof. Combine the mixture plus 1 more cup warm water (or enough to make wet sticky dough).
Place in greased bread pan.
Cover and set in warm place and allow to increase 1/3 in bulk.
Bake at 450Β° approximately 50 minutes.
Remove from pan.
May be left in turned off oven 20 minutes for a crustier finish.
To make a coarser texture, substitute 3/4 cup cracked wheat or wheat germ for 3/4 cup of flour.
