Family Favorite French Bread
Family Favorite French Bread is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 2 pkg. active dry yeast, 2 1/2 c. warm water (105~ to 115~), 1 tbsp. salt, 1 tbsp. butter or margarine, melted and 7 c. all-purpose flour, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Dissolve yeast in water in mixer bowl.
Add salt, butter and flour.
Using a dough hook mix until well blended, about 2 minutes. Mix on medium speed 2 minutes longer.
Turn out on floured surface. Knead until smooth and elastic (about 10 minutes).
Place in a greased bowl, turning to grease top.
Cover; let rise in a warm, draft free spot about 1 hour.
Punch down and divide in half.
Roll each half into a 12 x 15-inch rectangle.
Roll up dough tightly, tapering ends.
Place loaves on greased baking sheet on top of cornmeal.
Cover; let rise 1 hour.
Make 4 cuts across loaves and bake at 450Β° for 25 minutes.
Beat egg white with water, brush on loaves and bake 5 minutes longer.
Cool on wire racks.
