Mama's Boiled Frosting
Mama'S Boiled Frosting is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 2 c. sugar, 3/4 c. water, 1 tbsp. light corn syrup or 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar, dash of salt and 2 stiff beaten egg whites, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Simple to make and full of bold, satisfying flavors.

Cook first 4 ingredients over low heat; stirring until sugar dissolves.
Cover pan 2 to 3 minutes to dissolve sugar crystals on sides of pan.
Uncover.
Cook to hard ball stage (236Β°) or until when you drop off of spoon you see tiny threads.
Gradually add hot syrup to egg whites, beating constantly; add vanilla; beat until frosting is of spreading consistency; frost tops and sides of two (8 or 9-inch) layers.
Add coconut on top of cake.
