Grandpa's Sauerbraten
Grandpa'S Sauerbraten is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 4 lb. beef, 1 pt. vinegar, 5 carrots, cut into strips, 4 cloves and 12 peppercorns, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Ideal for meal prep and leftovers taste even better.

Sprinkle beef with salt and pepper.
Place in an earthen dish (do not use metal).
Add bay leaves, peppercorns, cloves, vinegar and enough water to cover.
Let stand 5 days in refrigerator. Turn daily.
Brown meat and add 2 cups of the spiced vinegar mixture, carrots and onions.
Cover and cook on stove until tender, about 3 hours.
For gravy, dissolve gingersnaps in water and use to thicken mixture.
Serve with red cabbage.
