Bagels
Bagels is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 4 1/4 to 4 3/4 c. all-purpose flour, 1 pkg. active dry yeast, 1 1/2 c. warm water, 1/4 c. sugar and 1 tsp. salt, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A crowd-pleaser that never disappoints.
Combine 2 cups flour and yeast.
Add warm water, 3 tablespoons sugar and 1 teaspoon salt.
Beat at low speed with an electric mixer for 30 seconds.
Beat at high speed for 3 minutes.
Stir in as much of remaining flour as you can.
Turn out onto a floured surface; knead in enough flour to make dough stiff, elastic and smooth (6 to 8 minutes).
Cover; let rest for 10 minutes.
Divide dough into 12 portions.
Shape each portion into a ball; punch hole in the center and shape into a bagel.
Place on a greased baking sheet.
Cover; let rise for 20 minutes.
Broil bagels 3 to 4 minutes, turning once.
Drop bagels, 4 to 5 at a time into boiling water-sugar mixture.
Let simmer 7 minutes.
Drain on paper towels.
Place drained bagels on a well-greased baking sheet.
Bake in a 375Β° oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until tops are golden brown.
