Sopaipillas
Sopaipillas is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 cup all purpose flour, 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder, 1/4 tsp. salt, 1 tbsp. shortening and 1/2 cup warm water, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Simple to make and full of bold, satisfying flavors.

In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt.
Cut in shortening until mixture resembles fine crumbs.
Gradually add water, stirring with a fork. The dough will be crumbly. On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough for 3 minutes or until smooth.
Cover and let rest for 10 minutes. Roll out into a 12 x 10 inch rectangle.
Cut into 12 squares. In a deep-fat fryer, heat 2 inches of oil to 375 degrees. Fry sopaipillas (dough squares) for 1 to 2 minutes per side.
Drain on paper towels. Keep hot in warm oven. Serve with honey or dust with confectioners sugar if desired.
