Saltwater Taffy
Saltwater Taffy is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 2 c. sugar, 1 1/2 c. water, 1 c. light corn syrup, 1 1/2 tsp. salt and 2 tbsp. butter, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Ideal for meal prep and leftovers taste even better.
In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, water, syrup, salt and cocoa.
Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until sugar dissolves.
Continue to cook to hard ball stage (260Β°), without stirring, about 1 hour and 25 minutes.
Remove from heat; stir in butter and flavorings.
Pour into buttered 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1-inch pan.
Cool until comfortable to handle, 10 to 15 minutes.
Butter hands lightly; gather small amounts of taffy into a ball and pull until candy becomes opaque and holds its shape.
Pull each piece into a long strand about 1/2-inch thick.
With buttered kitchen shears, snip into bite size pieces.
Wrap in waxed paper or plastic wrap.
Makes 1 1/4 pounds.
