Moravian Sugar Cake
Moravian Sugar Cake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 pkg. yeast, 1/2 c. warm water, 1 c. hot mashed potatoes, 1 c. sugar and 4 tbsp. soft margarine, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Bursting with flavor in every bite.
Dissolve yeast in warm water.
To hot mashed potatoes, add 1 cup sugar, 4 tablespoons margarine, 1/2 cup shortening and salt. Add yeast mixture; mix well and let stand in warm place until "spongy."
Add eggs and sufficient flour to make soft dough.
Allow to rise (covered) at least 5 hours in a warm place.
Punch down and turn onto a surface; knead lightly 3 to 4 times.
Spread out evenly in greased biscuit pan.
Let rise for 1/2 hour or doubled.
Punch holes about 2 inches apart; place brown sugar mixture (about 1 teaspoon) and piece of butter into each hole.
Bake in 350Β° oven for 20 minutes.
