Molasses Crinkles
Molasses Crinkles is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 3/4 c. soft shortening, 1 c. packed brown sugar, 1 egg, 1/4 c. molasses and 2 1/4 c. flour, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Ideal for meal prep and leftovers taste even better.
Mix thoroughly shortening, brown sugar, egg and molasses. Sift together and stir in, flour, soda, salt, cloves, cinnamon and ginger.
Chill dough.
Roll into balls the size of large walnuts. Dip tops in sugar.
Place, sugared side up, 3 inches apart on greased baking sheet.
Sprinkle each cookie with 2 or 3 drops of water to produce a crackled surface.
Bake just until set, but not hard at 375Β°, about 10 to 12 minutes.
(I never bake longer than 10 minutes, because we prefer a chewy cookie.)
Makes 4 dozen 2 1/2-inch cookies.
