Bread and Butter Pickles
Bread And Butter Pickles is an impressive dinner. Made with 12 unpeeled cucumbers, sliced, 8 onions, sliced, 2 green sweet peppers, cut small, 2 red sweet peppers, cut small and 2 stalks celery, cut small, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A crowd-pleaser that never disappoints.
Combine in large kettle: cucumbers, onions, green sweet peppers, red sweet peppers, celery.
Mix 4 cups cold water with 1/2 cup pickling salt and pour over above.
Let stand about 2 hours.
Then drain and rinse and mix with the following ingredients that have been brought to a boiling point:
1 1/2 c. brown sugar, 1 1/2 c. white sugar, 3 c. vinegar, mustard seed, celery seed, turmeric and cloves.
Bring back to boil.
Cook until cucumber slices are tender, about 15 minutes.
Seal in hot, sterilized jars.
Makes about 6 pints.
