Wash and cut up cucumbers.

Put in churn.

Mix salt in 1 gallon water and pour over cucumbers.

Let stand 3 days.

Drain off salt water.

Cover with alum water (1 tablespoon to 1 gallon water).

Let stand 1 day.

Drain and cover with ginger water (1 tablespoon ginger to 1 gallon water).

Let stand 1 day.

Drain and rinse cucumbers once and drain well.

Put back in churn.

Mix vinegar, sugar and pickling spice and bring to a boil.

Put over cucumbers.

Let stand 1 day.

Next day, put cucumbers in jars. Boil liquid and pour over pickles.

Seal and store.
