White Bread
White Bread is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 2 tbsp. dried yeast, 1 tsp. sugar, 1/2 c. warm water, 2 c. scalded milk and 7 large tsp. shortening, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. An easy weeknight meal that comes together quickly.

Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water.
To milk, shortening and 1 1/2 cups cold water, add gradually 10 to 12 cups flour. After mixing about 3 cups flour to water mixture, add yeast mixture.
Continue adding flour, until easy to knead and doesn't stick to board, about 10 to 15 minutes.
Knead until indentations spring back.
Grease top.
Let rise until double in bulk.
Rise in a warm place.
If oven is cool, set a pan of boiling water in bottom of oven.
Punch down and shape into loaves or rolls.
Let rise until double in bulk.
Bake at 375Β° for 35 or 40 minutes. Remove from pans immediately.
Butter tops, if desired, while warm.
Makes 4 loaves.
