Peel and seed cucumbers (remove seeds with spoon).

Cut into rings or strips.

Soak in 1 cup lime and 1 gallon water for 24 hours.

Drain and wash; soak in water for 3 hours.

Drain and mix 1 cup vinegar, 1 bottle red food coloring, 2 tablespoons alum and enough water to cover cucumbers.

Simmer for 2 hours; drain.

Bring to a boil 2 cups vinegar, 2 cups of water, 10 cups sugar, 8 cinnamon sticks and 1 pack red hots.

Pour over cucumbers and let stand 24 hours.

Drain again and save liquid.

Bring liquid to boil and pour over cucumbers.

Leave for 24 hours.

Drain again and keep liquid.

Place cucumbers in jars.

Bring liquid to boil and pour over cucumbers and seal.
