Momma's Butter and Egg Bread

Soften yeast in 1/2 cup warm water.
Set aside.
Bring 1 cup water and butter to boil.
Turn off burner.
Set aside.
Let cool to warm.
In a large bowl, combine 1 cup cold water, sugar, salt and egg.
To this, add water, butter and yeast (making sure the water is not too hot to kill the yeast).
Stir in enough flour to form dough.
Turn onto floured surface and knead for 10 to 15 minutes.
Continue adding flour as needed.
Set in a warm place to rise until doubled.
Punch down and knead again.
Form into rolls or loaf.
Let rise until doubled.
Bake in a 350Β° oven until golden brown, rolls about 25 minutes, loaf about 1 hour.
Cool on cooling rack.
