Mama's Tea Cakes
Mama'S Tea Cakes is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 c. sugar, 1 c. shortening, 1 egg, lightly beaten, 2 to 3 c. all-purpose flour and 1/3 c. buttermilk, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A classic recipe that has been enjoyed for generations.
Cream sugar and shortening together; add beaten egg.
Add soda to buttermilk and stir.
Add to first mixture.
Work in gradually enough flour to make stiff dough.
Knead until smooth (6 or 7 times).
Roll out about 1/8-inch thick and cut with 3-inch biscuit cutter.
Sprinkle a little sugar on top if desired.
Place on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake at 375Β° for 5 to 6 minutes or until very lightly brown.
Remove from pan immediately and cool on linen towel.
