French Onion Soup
French Onion Soup is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 4 tbsp. butter, 9 medium onions, sliced thin, 2 tbsp. flour, 2 cans consomme and 5 c. water, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Simple to make and full of bold, satisfying flavors.
Melt butter in heavy Dutch oven. Add onions and cook, stirring constantly, until golden. Sprinkle with flour.
Cook and stir until flour and onions are browned. Stir in consomme and water. Bring to a boil, then simmer 45 to 60 minutes.
Add milk, salt and pepper.
Pour into individual serving dishes.
Drizzle melted butter on bread.
Place on soup; top with grated cheese. Brown under broiler or in microwave until cheese melts.
