Elsie's Sweet Pickles
Elsie'S Sweet Pickles is an moderately easy dinner. Made with cucumbers, salt, alum (size of walnut), diluted vinegar and 6 c. sugar, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A classic recipe that has been enjoyed for generations.

Split or cut in rings all pickles. Soak in brine made of 1 pint salt to 1 gallon water for 3 days. Drain and soak in fresh water for 3 days, changing to fresh water each day.
Put in 1 gallon water, 1/2 cup vinegar and alum solution; simmer until hot through, 15 to 20 minutes; drain. Place pickles in jars. Boil vinegar and spices for 3 minutes.
Pour over pickles and seal. Will be ready to use in 10 days.
