Soak whole cucumbers in salt water for 14 days.

Remove from salt water; slice and soak overnight in 1/2 box alum water. Remove from alum water.

Rinse and soak in 1 gallon apple cider vinegar for 6 hours.

Remove from vinegar.

Pour vinegar out.

Put pickles and sugar in layers with spice.

Use 10 pounds sugar.

Let stand in stone or glass jar for several days before using. Pickles do not have to be sealed.
