Preheat oven to 450Β°. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt (and soda if using).

Cut in shortening until fine; add milk and mix until soft dough forms.

Then with floured hands, gently knead dough a few times.

Press or roll out on floured surface to 3/8-inch thickness.

Cut out and place on lightly greased baking sheet.

Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown.

Makes 12 to 16 biscuits, depending on size of your cutter.
