Heat oil in large casserole or Dutch oven.

Add onions; saute over medium heat until softened or about 5 minutes.

Add cabbage and salt.

Cover and cook over low heat, stirring often, until cabbage is wilted or about 5 minutes.

Add rice, cumin, garlic and turmeric; saute about 2 minutes.

Stir in broth, more salt, if needed, and pepper.

Bring to a boil.

Cover and cook over low heat for 20 minutes.

Serves 4 (main dish) or 6 to 8 (side dish).
