Swiss Onion Soup
Swiss Onion Soup is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1/2 c. butter, 2 lb. onions, sliced, 3 (10 1/2 oz.) cans condensed beef broth, water and 1 tsp. brown sugar, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A classic recipe that has been enjoyed for generations.

Saute onion in butter over very low heat until onion becomes a light golden brown.
Takes nearly an hour.
Stir in soup, 2 soup cans of water, brown sugar, thyme and bay leaf.
Bring mixture to a boil; let simmer 2 or 3 hours.
Remove bay leaf.
Ladle into bowls and sprinkle with grated cheese.
Makes 2 1/2 quarts.
