Sweet and Sour Cabbage
Sweet And Sour Cabbage is an impressive dinner. Made with 2 1/2 to 3 c. red cabbage, shredded, 2 tbsp. shortening (bacon grease preferred), 1 medium onion, thinly sliced, 3/4 c. red wine vinegar and 4 tbsp. sugar, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A comforting dish that warms the soul.

Heat bacon grease, fry onions until lightly brown.
Add vinegar, sugar, salt, pepper, bay leaves, juniper berries and 2 cups water.
Bring to boil.
Add cabbage, simmer 45 minutes or until cabbage is tender.
Remove and sprinkle with flour.
Melt butter; add lemon juice and molasses.
Stir mixture into cabbage. Serve very hot.
