Add shortening, sugar and salt to scalded milk.

When cooled to lukewarm, add yeast and half the flour and beat well.

Let rise until light in a warm, draft-free place.

Add egg and remaining flour.

Mix well and let rise.

Roll dough into oblong strip about 1/4-inch thick and 13 x 9 inches.

Spread with melted butter, brown sugar, nuts and raisins.

Roll up like a jelly roll and form into a ring on a greased baking sheet.

With scissors make cuts two-thirds of the way through ring at 2-inch intervals.

Turn each cut section on its side.

Cover and let rise until double in bulk.

Bake about 30 minutes in hot oven (375Β°).

Frost while hot with a thin icing made by combining the milk and confectioners sugar.
