Scrub ham in warm water and soak overnight.

Place in cooking utensil with skin side up.

Add 8 to 10 cups of water.

Cover tightly and place in a cold oven.

Set temperature at 500°.

Never open door once ham has been placed in oven.

Count cooking time when oven reaches 500° and cook for 15 minutes.

Turn off oven and leave for 3 hours.

Turn oven on again and, after reaching 500°, allow to cook for another 15 minutes.

Turn oven off and leave ham in oven for 6 to 8 hours.

Skin and sprinkle with brown sugar and brown in oven.
