Steak And Biscuits is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 2 lb. round steak, 1 inch thick, salt and pepper to taste, 1/2 c. shortening or oil, 1/2 c. flour and 1 large onion, sliced, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. An easy weeknight meal that comes together quickly.
Cut steak into serving size pieces and season with salt and pepper.
Heat shortening or oil in a large cast-iron skillet. Flour both sides and brown in shortening.
Add onion to the skillet after turning steaks.
Remove steak and onion from the skillet and place in a 9 x 13-inch baking pan.
Add remaining flour to shortening and cook over low heat until flour begins to brown. Gradually add water, stirring constantly to make a smooth gravy. Cover pan with foil and bake at 350° for 1 hour.
When tender, top with biscuits and brown at 400° until biscuits are golden brown.
