Old-Timey Chicken Pastry
Old-Timey Chicken Pastry is an easy dinner. Made with 1 fat hen, cut up, 4 to 5 c. self-rising flour, 3 tbsp. crisco and salt and pepper, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Ideal for meal prep and leftovers taste even better.
Place hen in a large pot.
Add enough water to cover. Add salt and pepper to taste.
Boil until tender.
Using warm water, mix flour and Crisco to form a biscuit like dough.
Roll out into thin sheet of dough. Allow to set and slightly dry. Cut into strips 2 x 5-inch.
Drop into boiling chicken broth, a few strips at a time. Allow to cook for 15 to 20 minutes without stirring.
Serve with candied yams.
