Grandma Desmet Bread
Grandma Desmet Bread is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 c. milk, 1 c. sugar, 3 tsp. salt, 1 stick butter/margarine, softened and 1 c. warm water, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A classic recipe that has been enjoyed for generations.

Scald milk.
Stir in sugar, salt and butter; put aside. Measure water into bowl.
Add yeast.
Stir into milk mixture.
Add eggs.
Add 1/2 of the flour.
Beat until smooth. Stir in the rest of the flour.
Knead 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place dough in large greased bowl.
Let rise until double in size.
Punch down and shape into 4 small loaves, 2 large loaves or 2 large braids.
Let rise again.
Bake at 350° for 30 minutes for small loaves or 375° for 25 minutes for large loaves.
