Bread and Butter Pickles
Bread And Butter Pickles is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 gallon cukes, 8 small onions, 1/2 cup salt, 2 red peppers and 2 green peppers, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Great for entertaining guests or a cozy night in.
Wash and slice cukes very thin.
Slice in onions.
Mix in salt. Add one quart very cold water, let stand 3 hours.
Drain well and add pickling syrup of 5 cups of sugar, 1 1/2 teaspoons turmeric, 1/2 scant teaspoon cloves, 2 tablespoons mustard seed, 1 tablespoon celery seed, 4 cups vinegar, 1 cup water.
Scald but do not boil. Seal in jars.
