Boarding House Bread
Boarding House Bread is an impressive dinner. Made with 3 to 3 1/4 c. all-purpose flour, 2 tsp. dried parsley flakes, 1/4 tsp. dried thyme, crushed, 1 c. milk and 2 tbsp. cooking oil, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Perfect for family dinners and special occasions.
Preheat oven to 375°.
In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups flour, the yeast, parsley flakes, celery flakes, thyme and basil.
In saucepan, heat milk, sugar, oil and salts just until warm (115° to 120°).
Add to dry mixture in mixing bowl; add whole egg.
Beat at low speed of electric mixer for 1/2 minute, scraping sides of bowl constantly.
Beat 3 minutes at high speed.
By hand, stir in enough flour to make a moderately soft dough.
Knead on a lightly floured surface until smooth, 5 to 8 minutes.
Shape into a ball.
Place in greased bowl, turning once to grease surface.
