Baklava
Baklava is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 4 1/2 c. walnuts (16 oz.) finely chopped, 1/2 c. sugar, 1 tbsp. cinnamon, 1 lb. phyllo (strudel leaves) and 1 c. butter, melted, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A classic recipe that has been enjoyed for generations.
Grease 13 x 9-inch pan.
Preheat oven to 300Β°.
In large bowl mix walnuts, sugar and cinnamon.
In pan, place 1 sheet of phyllo, allowing it to extend up sides; brush with butter.
Repeat to make 5 layers.
Sprinkle with 1 cup nut mixture.
Cut remaining phyllo into approximately 13 x 9-inch rectangles.
Place a sheet of phyllo in pan; brush with butter.
Repeat to make 6 layers, overlapping phyllo if necessary to make rectangle.
Top with 1 cup nut mixture. Repeat.
End with phyllo on top.
Trim overhang.
Using a sharp knife cut halfway through all layers in a diamond pattern to make 24 servings.
Bake 1 hour 15 minutes or until top is brown.
