Drain beans; let bean liquid settle and then measure 1/4 cup of the clear liquid and reserve.
A medium skillet, melt butter; add onion and green pepper and cook until wilted.
Stir in mustard, sugar and vinegar, then tomato soup and reserved 1/4 cup bean liquid.
Turn beans into a 1-quart casserole; pour the tomato sauce over them.
Put bacon slices on top of this if desired.
Bake, uncovered, in 375Β° oven for 45 minutes or longer if you want them cooked down more.
