Cream butter and shortening; gradually add sugars, beating well at medium speed. Add egg and beat well. In a separate bowl, combine flour, soda and salt; add to butter mixture, mixing well. Stir in vanilla, white chocolate and nuts. Chill for 1 hour.
Drop dough by spoonful 3-inches apart onto lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350Β° for 10 to 12 minutes. (Cookies will be soft.) Cool slightly on cookie sheet; remove to wire rack to cool completely. Yield: 3 dozen.
