Port Apple Butter
Port Apple Butter is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 4/5 qt. california port wine, 1 qt. water, 2 qt. peeled and sliced apples (jonathan or other tart apples), 1 1/2 c. sugar and 1/4 tsp. salt, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Simple to make and full of bold, satisfying flavors.

Heat water and wine to boiling in a large kettle.
Add apples and cook slowly 1 1/2 to 2 hours, until mixture begins to thicken. Beat with an electric mixer to break up apple slices.
Add sugar, salt and spices.
Cook slowly, stirring occasionally, until thick. (This last cooking should take about 1 hour.)
