Plain Dough
Plain Dough is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 pkg. active dry yeast or 1 cake yeast, 1/4 c. water, 1 c. scalded milk, 2 tbsp. sugar and 2 tbsp. shortening, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A classic recipe that has been enjoyed for generations.

Soften yeast in warm water or cake yeast in lukewarm water. Add milk, sugar, shortening and salt in a large bowl.
Cool until lukewarm.
Add 1 cup flour; beat well.
Beat in yeast and egg. Gradually add remaining flour to form soft dough, beating well. Cover; let stand in warm place until double, about 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
Turn out on floured surface; shape as desired.
