Oatmeal Bread
Oatmeal Bread is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 2 c. boiling water, 1 c. oats, 2 pkg. yeast, 1/3 c. warm water and 6 c. flour, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A classic recipe that has been enjoyed for generations.
Combine boiling water and oats.
Let stand 30 minutes.
Mix yeast and warm water and let stand 5 minutes.
Mix oats, yeast, salt, honey, butter and about 4 cups of the flour in a very large bowl.
Knead in remaining 2 cups flour.
(It will be hard work.) Let rise until doubled, 2 to 3 hours.
Punch down dough.
Divide in half and stretch each portion to cover bottoms of 2 greased loaf pans.
Let double again, 1 to 2 hours.
Bake at 325Β° for about 50 minutes.
