Leona's Caramels
Leona'S Caramels is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 c. butter, 1/4 tsp. salt, 1 (15 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk, 1 1/4 c. brown sugar and 1 c. light karo syrup, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A classic recipe that has been enjoyed for generations.
Melt butter in heavy 3-quart saucepan. Add sugar and salt. Stir in syrup.
Mix well. Gradually add milk, stirring constantly. Cook on medium heat until firm ball stage (245Β°) or for about 15 minutes. Remove from heat. Add vanilla and pour into well buttered 9 x 9-inch pan. Cool for 4 to 5 hours.
Flip on board and cut with sharp knife and wrap each piece in wax paper.
