Gratin Potatoes(Serves 3 To 4)
Gratin Potatoes(Serves 3 To 4) is an moderately easy dinner you can prepare in about 1 hour 30 minutes. Made with garlic, cut, . butter, baking potatoes (or about 6 smaller red potatoes), skinned, whole milk plus some half and half and seasoned bread crumbs or crumbled seasoned croutons (i prefer the latter), this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A crowd-pleaser that never disappoints.
Rub the inside of 8 x 8-inch glass baking dish with the cut garlic clove; let it dry.
Then smear the inside of the dish with butter or margarine.
Cut potatoes into slices no thicker than 1/8-inch.
Arrange slices in dish in rows, slightly overlapping both slices and rows.
Lightly salt each layer.
Do not fill dish more than 2/3 full.
Pour milk into dish until potatoes are about half covered; then just barely cover the whole mixture with the half and half.
Finally, sprinkle all liberally with the bread crumbs and some butter shavings.
(Note
I use plain skim milk; relying on the seasoned crouton crumbs for flavor; it works fine!)
