Cucumber Pickles

First day, pack cucumbers jar longways.
Mix 1 cup plain salt and 1/2 gallon boiling water; pour over cucumbers. On second day, pour off water and rinse good.
Add 1 jar alum. Cover with boiling water.
On third day, pour off water and rinse good. Add plain boiling water.
On the fourth day, pour off water, then mix spices bag with 1/2 gallon vinegar. Boil together.
Add to cucumbers and let stand for 7 days.
On eighth day, take out of vinegar and slice. Put cucumbers back in jar.
Add sugar until enough syrup covers cucumbers.
