Chop Suey
Chop Suey is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1/2 lb. pork, diced, 3/4 lb. beef, diced, 6 tbsp. soy sauce, 1/2 c. water and 1 small bunch celery, cut 1/2-inch thick (use more or less celery as desired), this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A comforting dish that warms the soul.
Sear diced meat in skillet until brown.
Mix soy sauce and water.
Add to meat, simmer 2 minutes.
Cook celery and onion in small amount of water until tender.
Add meat, simmer 1 1/2 hours. Mix cornstarch with water to form paste.
Stir in meat mixture, add bean sprouts and mushrooms (also water chestnuts or bamboo shoots if desired).
Cook gently until thick.
Season to taste with salt.
Serve with chow mein noodles or fluffy rice, or both.
