Carolina Meat Pie

Cut ham finely; cut veal into 1-inch cubes and sprinkle
Generously with salt and pepper. Put in pot with butter or lard and when hot, add meat. Brown well; add onions and cook few minutes. Add carrots. Sprinkle with flour and when brown, add boiling water. Combine with ketchup and simmer for 1/2 hour or until meat is tender. Add potatoes and cook until they are tender and stew is rich and thick.
