Caramel Frosting(50 Years Old) is an easy dinner. Made with 1 1/2 c. soft oleo or butter, 3 c. sugar, 1 1/2 c. buttermilk, 1 1/2 tsp. soda and 1 tsp. vanilla, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A comforting dish that warms the soul.
Cream butter.
Gradually add sugar, beating well with hand. (Now mixer.)
Dissolve soda in milk.
Add cream mixture; beat well.
Cook in heavy, large saucepan, stirring constantly, until it reaches a soft ball stage or 234Β°.
Remove from heat and add vanilla.
Do not stir.
Cook 10 minutes.
Mix until thick enough to spread, approximately 10 minutes.
Spread on cooled cake.
(Can use mixer on medium speed now, if you like.)
