Apricot Meringue Bars

Heat oven to 350Β°.
Grease an 11 x 7 x 2-inch baking dish. Blend butter or margarine, 1/2 cup sugar and egg yolks together. Work in flour.
Lightly flour hands.
Pat mixture into baking dish.
Bake for 15 minutes.
Remove from oven.
Spread evenly with preserves.
Beat egg whites until foamy.
Gradually beat in 1/3 cup sugar.
Continue beating until meringue forms stiff, glossy peaks.
Fold in nuts.
Spread over preserves.
Return to oven. Bake for 25 minutes.
Cool on rack.
Serves 16.
