Combine sugar, corn syrup and evaporated milk in heavy saucepan.
Bring to a boil over low heat, stirring constantly. Cook for 4 minutes or to 234° to 240° on candy thermometer (soft ball stage).
Remove from heat.
Stir in peanut butter and vanilla; beat with spoon until thickened.
Pour into an 8 x 8-inch buttered dish.
Let stand until set.
Cut into squares. Yields 24 squares.
