Pea Soup
Pea Soup is an moderately easy soup you can prepare in just 54 minutes. Made with . (2 c.) dry whole green peas (available at keaau natural foods), ham hocks and large cooking onion, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A classic recipe that has been enjoyed for generations.
Wash peas well.
Soak peas overnight in water to cover and then drain.
Put peas in soup kettle with 2 1/2 quarts of water, the cut up ham hocks and the sliced onion.
Add freshly ground black pepper to taste.
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat so soup just simmers and cook for 2 hours.
I serve this with dark rye bread and butter.
