Our Favorite Devil'S Food Cake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 c. sugar, 1/2 c. margarine (soft), 3 oz. unsweetened chocolate, melted, 1/4 c. water and 2 c. flour, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A crowd-pleaser that never disappoints.
Cream sugar and margarine.
Add melted chocolate.
Beat egg yolks; add water and extract and blend.
Gradually add yolk mixture to chocolate mixture; beat until light and fluffy.
Sift flour, soda and salt together.
Add alternately with milk, blending well after each addition.
Beat egg whites until stiff but not dry; fold into batter.
Pour into 2 greased and floured 9-inch round cake pans or one 13 x 9 x 2-inch loaf pan.
Bake in a 350Β° oven for about 30 to 35 minutes, or until cake springs back when touched lightly.
