Old Fashioned Dried Apple Stack Cake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 3/4 c. shortening, 1 c. sugar, 1 c. sorghum molasses, 3 eggs and 1 c. milk, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A classic recipe that has been enjoyed for generations.
Preheat
Sift well flour, salt, soda, baking powder, ginger. Cream shortening, then add sugar, a little at a time, blending well.
Add sorghum; mix thoroughly. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well until smooth after each. Pour very thin layers (1/3-inch) into 9-inch pans and bake.
This will make 6 or 7 layers. When you've cooked dried apples about 3 to 4 cups (sugar and cinnamon to taste) spread between each layer and on top layer.
