New England Brown Bread is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1/2 c. all-purpose flour, 2 tsp. baking soda, 1 tsp. salt (scant), 2 c. whole wheat flour and 2 c. buttermilk or sour milk, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. An easy weeknight meal that comes together quickly.

In a large bowl, combine all-purpose flour, baking soda and salt.
In another bowl, combine whole wheat flour, buttermilk and molasses, adding this to the other flour mixture.
Mix well and stir in raisins.
Pour into well-greased 11.5 ounce coffee cans. Bake at 350Β° for 45 to 50 minutes or until tested done.
Yields 2 loaves.
