Mother's Lemon Snow Cake

Sift the sugar, flour and cornstarch before measuring.
Then sift the measured cornstarch, flour, baking powder and salt together 4 times.
Cream the butter thoroughly and add the sugar a little at a time, creaming it in well.
Add the dry ingredients alternately with the milk.
Beat the egg whites into stiff peaks. Fold into the creamed mixture.
Pour into 3 greased and floured layer cake pans and bake in a 350Β° oven for 25 minutes.
Cool in pans for 15 minutes.
Remove from pans and finish cooling.
Put the layers together with filling.
