Moravian Sugar Cake
Moravian Sugar Cake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 3/4 c. sugar, 1/2 c. shortening, 2 eggs, beaten, 4 c. flour and 1 tsp. salt, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A comforting dish that warms the soul.
Dissolve yeast in 1 cup warm water.
Put flour, salt and sugar in a bowl and mix well.
Make well in middle of flour and pour in mashed potatoes, beaten eggs, shortening and yeast.
Mix well. Let stand for 2 to 2 1/2 hours or until doubled in size.
Spread on greased pans.
Let rise.
Then sprinkle thick with brown sugar, dot with butter and sprinkle with cinnamon.
Bake at 375° to 400° for about 20 minutes or until brown.
