Sift flour 3 times before measuring.

Add baking powder and salt and sift again.

Cream butter and sugar thoroughly.

Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.

Add 1/3 flour and blend well.

Add 1/2 milk and blend well.

Add another 1/3 flour and blend, then the other 1/2 milk and finally, the last 1/3 flour and blend well.

Pour 2/3 batter into 2 pans which have been lined with wax paper.

To remaining 1/3 batter, add 3/4 teaspoon each cinnamon and allspice, 1/4 tsp. cloves and 1/4 pound of raisins, chopped fine.

Pour into cake pan which has been lined with wax paper.

Bake at 350Β° for 25 to 30 minutes.
